Bavarian Giants Appoint Freund as Their New Sporting Director
Bayern Munich announced on Tuesday that Christoph Freund has been appointed as the club's new sporting director. The 46-year-old Austrian, who currently holds the same position at Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg, will take over the role on September 1st.
This decision comes after Bayern's previous club chief executive officer Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic parted ways in May, shortly after securing their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title in the last match of the season.
Having spent 17 years at Salzburg, Freund will now succeed Bosnian Salihamidzic at Bayern. Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern's CEO, stated that they firmly believe Freund is the ideal person to strengthen the team's future, working alongside Thomas Tuchel's coaching team and technical director Marco Neppe.
It has been mutually agreed with Red Bull Salzburg, where Christoph Freund has excelled in his role, that he will remain with his current employer to oversee the ongoing transfer period until the beginning of September before joining Bayern.
