Leipzig Secures Dutch Midfielder Simons on a One-Year Loan from PSG
Germany's RB Leipzig announced on Wednesday that they have secured the signing of Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons on a one-year loan deal from French champions Paris St Germain.
The 20-year-old recently returned to PSG after spending a year with Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven, where he had an impressive performance as the league's second-top scorer with 19 goals in 34 games. His contributions helped PSV secure a second-place finish and win the 2022-23 KNVB Cup.
Leipzig's Board Member for Sport, Max Eberl, expressed excitement about acquiring the exceptional young talent, describing Xavi Simons as one of the top attacking midfielders in his age group in Europe. Eberl believes Simons possesses all the qualities needed to make a significant impact in the Bundesliga with his individual brilliance.
The talented player, who previously trained at Barcelona's academy, joined PSV in June 2022 after his contract with PSG expired. However, he has now returned to the French club, who promptly loaned him out to Leipzig.
Speaking about his new move, Xavi Simons expressed enthusiasm about joining a club that regularly competes in the Champions League. He praised Leipzig's squad for having a perfect mix of young and experienced players and shared his belief that his abilities will complement the team's style of play, leading to success together.
Notably, Simons had the honor of representing the Netherlands in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, earning his first cap in a 3-1 last-16 victory over the United States.
Leipzig's third-place finish in the Bundesliga secured their spot in the Champions League group stage for the upcoming season.
