You might know her as the energetic Yellow Wiggle lighting up children's television screens, but Evie Ferris is much more than that. From making history as an Indigenous ballerina to capturing the hearts of millions of kids worldwide, Evie’s journey is nothing short of inspiring.
Here is the incredible story of how a young girl from Cairns danced her way into the history books.
✨ Early Beginnings & Big Dreams
Born on February 18, 1997, in Cairns, Queensland, Evie fell in love with performing almost immediately.
- Age 4: Started her very first dance and performing arts classes.
- 2007 (Age 10): Beat out fierce competition to land a supporting puppet role in The Australian Ballet's production of Don Quixote.
- Age 12: Made the life-changing move to Melbourne to study full-time at the prestigious Australian Ballet School.
🩰 Making History en Pointe
Evie’s hard work paid off massively in 2015 when she was officially selected to join The Australian Ballet. With this achievement, she became only the second Indigenous ballerina in the company's history.
Her ballet career reached incredible heights:
- Global Exchange: Traveled to Canada on a student exchange and toured extensively.
- Iconic Roles: Performed in legendary productions like Swan Lake (as one of the famous Cygnets) and George Balanchine's Jewels (in the high-energy Rubies section).
- Promotion: Recognized for her elite talent, she was promoted to coryphée within the company in 2023.
💛 Wiggling into a New Era
In 2021, Evie took a leap into a completely different kind of spotlight. She joined Australia’s most famous children’s band, The Wiggles, as part of their exciting expanded lineup.
- The Outfit Swap: She originally wore the Blue skivvy as a second Blue Wiggle before transitioning into her current role as a Yellow Wiggle.
- A Cultural Milestone: As a proud Taribelang and Djabugay woman, Evie made history once again as the very first Indigenous Australian to ever join the group.
Whether she is spinning in a tutu or dancing with Captain Feathersword, Evie Ferris continues to break barriers and inspire the next generation of performers.
