The Story Behind "Before You": Chantal Kreviazuk's Biggest Hit

"Before You" is the lead single from Chantal Kreviazuk's second studio album, Colour Moving and Still, released on September 7, 1999. This iconic song by the Canadian singer-songwriter remains her biggest commercial hit in Canada to date, driven by a captivating melody and a deeply inspiring backstory.

🌟 When Creative Lows Spark Masterpieces

Did you know this hit almost never happened? Kreviazuk wrote the track just days before entering the recording studio, right in the middle of an intense creative rut:

"We were in our third day of preproduction, and I was so bummed ... I wrote the song during that low point. It showed me that a creative low can bring something great out of you."

Her resilience paid off: the track became such a staple that she performed it live at the 2000 Juno Awards.

📈 Crushing the Canadian Charts

Following its release in late 1999, "Before You" quickly climbed to the top of music charts across the country.
