Alex Kirilloff leads Twins to an easy victory against the Mariners.
Alex Kirilloff came just one hit short of hitting for the cycle, and Bailey Ober overcame a rough start to deliver six solid innings on the mound as the Minnesota Twins defeated the host Seattle Mariners 10-3 on Tuesday.
Edouard Julien, Kyle Farmer, and Carlos Correa also hit home runs for the Twins, who secured their fourth win in five games since the All-Star break.
Eugenio Suarez celebrated his 32nd birthday by hitting a home run for Seattle.
Ober (6-4) allowed three runs on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts. All three runs and six of the hits against the right-hander came in the first inning.
However, after giving up a double to Jose Caballero with one out in the second inning, Ober settled in and retired 14 of the final 15 batters he faced. The only other baserunner during that span was Suarez, who was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning.
The Twins got off to a strong start in the first inning, scoring two runs against Mariners rookie Bryan Woo (1-2). Correa singled, and Kirilloff drew a one-out walk. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Max Kepler drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left field. Matt Wallner was then hit by a pitch, and Willi Castro lined a single to center to drive in another run.
The Mariners responded in the bottom of the inning, with J.P. Crawford leading off with a single, followed by Suarez hitting a two-run home run to right-center field. Although Jarred Kelenic and Teoscar Hernandez hit singles, the Mariners had two runners thrown out at the plate during the inning.
In the third inning, the Twins regained the lead as Julien led off with a single, and Kirilloff hit a home run to left field, making it 4-3 in favor of Minnesota. They added another run as Kepler walked, advanced on Castro's single, a flyout, and then scored on a throwing error by catcher Cal Raleigh as Castro stole second.
The Twins extended their lead with two more runs in the fourth inning, chasing Woo out of the game. Julien hit a home run to right field with one out, followed by Kirilloff's triple to left-center field. Kepler then doubled into the right-field corner, bringing the score to 7-3.
Woo's outing ended after 3 1/3 innings, during which he allowed seven runs, six of them earned, on eight hits. He also walked three batters and struck out four.
Minnesota added one more run in the sixth inning, courtesy of singles by Julien, Kepler, and Castro, making it 8-3.
In the ninth inning, Farmer and Correa each hit a home run to seal the Twins' convincing victory.
