Kyle Schwarber Continues Homer Streak as Phillies narrowly Defeat Brewers
Kyle Schwarber hit a home run for the fourth consecutive game, Bryson Stott had two hits and an RBI, and the Philadelphia Phillies, the home team, defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 on Tuesday.
Trea Turner and Alec Bohm each contributed two hits, and Nick Castellanos had an RBI single for the Phillies, who secured their fourth consecutive victory.
The Phillies' starting pitcher, Aaron Nola (9-6), pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and three runs, two of which were earned. He struck out six batters and did not issue any walks.
Gregory Soto recorded the last two outs in the eighth inning, while Craig Kimbrel threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 16th save in as many chances. The Phillies had a bit of trouble in the ninth with two errors, but Raimel Tapia flied out to center field with a runner on second, sealing the victory for the Phillies.
Andruw Monasterio led the Brewers with a double, a single, two runs, and an RBI. Brice Turang also had two hits for Milwaukee, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.
The Brewers' starting pitcher, Julio Teheran (2-4), lasted only 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and four runs. He struck out three batters and issued two walks.
The Brewers narrowed the gap to 4-3 in the eighth inning, as they managed to get runners to second and third with two singles and a groundout. Soto replaced Nola, and Christian Yelich brought in an RBI with a fielder's choice before William Contreras grounded out to end the inning.
The Phillies took the lead 1-0 in the first inning when Schwarber hit Teheran's first pitch of the game for a home run to left field, marking Schwarber's 26th home run of the season.
In the second inning, Bohm's RBI groundout extended the Phillies' lead to 2-0.
Castellanos broke an 0-for-16 slump with an RBI single in the third inning, giving the Phillies a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Milwaukee's Owen Miller hit a fly ball to left field, and Schwarber made a spectacular catch at the fence.
Tapia followed with a two-out infield single to deep shortstop for the Brewers' first hit of the game and then stole second base. Monasterio hit an RBI double to center field, and Phillies first baseman Darick Hall committed a run-scoring fielding error, allowing Milwaukee to close the gap to 3-2.
Stott came through with an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, extending the Phillies' lead to 4-2.
