Messi Astonishes Teammate in Group Chat Prior to Spectacular Debut
Lionel Messi has already demonstrated his team player qualities at his new club, Inter Miami, as the Argentine forward pleasantly surprised a teammate in the players' group chat by providing timely assistance with tickets to his presentation on Sunday.
Not even the pouring rain could dampen the spirits of Messi's welcome party last weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where the new face of Major League Soccer (MLS) was introduced to a packed stadium filled with adoring fans.
Even the new teammates of the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner didn't want to miss the event. Forward Leonardo Campana turned to Inter's WhatsApp group in search of spare passes.
"On Sunday, Campana was looking for tickets and he asked in the group chat if anyone had any," Inter defender DeAndre Yedlin told reporters.
"I didn't even know if Messi was in the group chat yet, but he immediately responded, saying, 'How many do you need though?' Just like that.
"Right then, I was like, 'Wow!' You know what I mean? They had probably only known each other for three days or so, but to show that kind of generosity is a great example of who Messi is."
Despite a delay caused by heavy rain and lightning, a sold-out crowd of about 20,000 fans patiently waited to witness Messi being presented with his iconic No. 10 shirt. He was later joined on the pitch by his family, posing for photos as fireworks illuminated the sky.
