Bronze says England is 'empowered' to instigate change following pause in FA talks

Lucy Bronze expressed that the England squad is feeling "empowered" as they strive to raise the standards in women's football, despite the ongoing bonus discussions with the Football Association (FA) being put on hold before the World Cup.

On Tuesday, England captain Millie Bright issued a statement expressing the players' "disappointment" that the matter hadn't been resolved but emphasized that they would set it aside to concentrate on the World Cup.

The FA's decision not to provide bonus payments to the England team, in addition to the fees they will receive from FIFA, has been a contentious issue leading up to the tournament.

"It's the first time as a group of players that we've conveyed a message ourselves, something we've collectively done together," Bronze told reporters on Wednesday.

"So, in that sense, we have a strong sense of empowerment as players, both last night and this morning, and throughout these past few weeks. We believed it was crucial to send out this message because there have been some discussions. We want to demonstrate that our main focus is on the World Cup."

When asked if the dispute might distract the squad from their focus on the World Cup, Bronze stated that she was "100% confident" that it wouldn't be the case.

"Every single one of our players is entirely focused on competing in the games and delivering outstanding football," Bronze added.

"These discussions happen regularly, they just don't usually make it to the media. It happened before the Euros last year, and I don't think it distracted us then, as we went on to win it."

"As footballers, this is something we now have to address... We're dedicated athletes, role models, and we're empowering women all around the world, contributing to societal change."

England will begin their group stage campaign against Haiti on Saturday, followed by matches against Denmark and China.
